Summer Solstice and the Sun

I don’t do a whole lot of blogging about spirituality or Metaphysical subjects. While I am a public practitioner of intuitive arts, I have always been fairly private about my personal beliefs. But every once in a while I feel like certain information out there needs to be underscored.

Summer Solstice is the time when the earth is closest to the sun. It is also the strongest time of our own personal “sun”—the potential for ego development, transcendence and transformation. I have known plenty of people who have chosen to make their transition from this life to another form or who have entered into this life around that time. It is typically a powerful time for manifestation and active principles; for movement and expansion. This year’s Solstice (June 21st) falls during a Mercury Retrograde period (June 7th-July 1st), which is also powerful for manifestation, provided that we do our “homework.” A good beginning to this homework can be found by clicking on Ayamanatara’s link above. I’d also suggest that it involves a daily practice that works for us, such as yoga, other types of physical practice, meditation, prayer, contemplation or journaling. I love any and all of these because most of them either help us listen to what is going on at that exact moment or they physically move some kind of energy through our bodies.

This is an excellent time to review what your current top three to five goals are. One of the upsides to Mercury Retro is that it can help increase our focus on what’s in front of us or on a small handful of things. It may end up disabling multi-tasking to some degree. Since it’s all about active principles but communication and electronics may be working against us, it may be a good time to see how we can be active in the world around us nonverbally or without the help of technology. How can we reach out, expand, truly connect with others to possibly brighten their day with one small action? How can we grow ourselves by reaching out to our own well-being with one small gesture that could change the day, like waiting that extra half hour to reply frantically to an email that’s stressing us out and instead take some deep, full breaths to focus on something else?

It’s easy for many people to get stressed out, emotionally worked up, carried away or offended. It’s not as easy to take a moment to evaluate how we might be playing a part and how we can de-escalate the frenzy. If only to help ourselves. It’s also a possible time to step back and revise things. Be mindful of what you say and how you say it. Everywhere and to everyone. This could be a great time for a Facebook or social media vacation. Mercury, in certain schools of Kabbalistic spirituality, is associated with the solar plexus in the body, as is the Sun in other practices. How do our social habits connect with our heart space? Perhaps it is time to REevaluate how we move in the world. Do you want to keep doing that thing that hasn’t worked for you for ten years already? This could be a good time to address that. What we may end up seeing with this planetary combination is perhaps not the time to do ALL the things...but to go for that ONE thing you’ve wanted for a while. It can be yours if you don’t fear the asking. And if the Universe really has a sense of humor it will shower down all at once after July 2nd. ;-)
